A fatal car crash has occurred approximately half a mile from the village of Newtowncunningham on the main road to Letterkenny.
All traffic has been asked to take alternative routes as the road is expected to be closed until Saturday afternoon.
Traffic from Letterkenny going to Inishowen or Derry is asked to travel via the N13 to Lifford
Traffic from Derry and Inishowen directions is asked to travel via St Johnston to Lifford.
Motorists are also advised that due to the recent rainfall side roads may not suitable so stick with diverted routes.
Diversion signage will be in place so please follow to avoid congestion.
